Recipe of the Day

So, not going to lie, I have a major food problem. For those who know me so well know how much I adore and crave food; for those who don't know me, they're fascinated by the amount of food I can pack into my small frame. It's a gift I tell ya.

Naturally, being a food junkie, I love to bake and cook! I love love love entertaining others with food or just sitting down to a yummy meal each night. The first time Hunter ever had a meal with my family, he was very surprised at the amount of food on the table and thought that it was some special occasion him being over there. Bless his heart, little did he know that we eat like that almost every night! Growing up, my mother made sure that we had well-rounded meals with all food groups included.

With that being said, I'm devoting Saturday's to my love of food and cooking. Just a little token of my love... from my kitchen to yours!

----------------------------------------

This is a recipe I actually tried for the first time for Thanksgiving. A co-worker brought this scrumptious dessert into work one day and I ate about 10 pieces before pulling myself away. Since this is not our typical family recipe, I've attached the link to the blog where the recipe can be found. Let me tell ya, it was a huge hit with my family and friends! We're not huge pumpkin fans but mmm mmm mmm... They were asking for more! Enjoy my peeps!

High Five for Friday

We made it to Friday! Bring on the weekend!

Who doesn't love Friday's?! Friday's mean the weekend is merely just around the corner. Some of you may have big plans for your weekend, while others are simply relaxing. It always seems like my weekends are packed with nothing but family, friends, and the church house on Sunday's... All great things!

Another wonderful thing about Friday's are High Five for Fridays! High Five for Fridays, for those unfamiliar to the blogging term, is a list of five wonderful things that happened this week that need some notoriety. It can be anything from trying a new recipe to a life changing decision... All blessings are worth counting no matter how small. Here we go... This week's High Fives:

1) Of course this will be in the number one spot - Southern Komfort Blog came alive! It's only the first week in the blog, but I'm uber excited to see what the future holds.

2) Christmas decorations. Need I say more?! I love love LOVE Christmas time and all it has to offer. Check out some of the decorations my family and I did this week!

3) A sweet friend of mine (many mistake us for twins) just recently bought a house and is having her housewarming party tomorrow. I'm so excited and proud of her in making this next step in her life. Home owning can be so fun!

4) My lazy butt has made it to the gym this week. No, I'm not going to try and lose weight (Lord knows I don't need to lose any). I have a gym membership to encourage me to be more active and actually gain weight through building muscle. I can feel the difference in my energy level when I don't work out compared to when I do. Another plus, my better half joined me!

5) Last, but certainly not least, my Auburn Tigers are going to the National Championship. I haven't quite wrapped my head around this concept (seeing that we were a rough 3-9 season last year). This game is also interesting for me because the Tigers will be playing my Alma Mater, FSU. May the best team win... and War Eagle!

Have a wonderful weekend friends!

Patience is a Virtue

For me personally, patience is by far my biggest battle in life. Whether it has to do with wanting financial stability, ready for the next step in my life, or just waiting on grandma in line to move it... Patience is something I struggle with on a daily basis.

Funny thing though that I have learned {{and seem to be doing it A LOT lately}} that helps me with managing the stress that comes from lack of patience, is prayer and perspective. Prayer has gotten me through many difficult levels in my young adult life. Perspective has allowed me to see myself as if I were viewing from another person's eyes.

Both of these active remedies brings my little buttocks back down to earth and reminds me that I am blessed in more ways than I realize, and I take these things for granted. For example, I'm beyond blessed for:

  • My family and their undying love and support for me. They are the folks that know me best and can put me in my place... very quickly too!
  • My friends... I have very few best friends but they are some kind of special to me. I love and value their opinions when it comes to my stressful moments.
  • My job. I was unemployed for a very short time at the beginning of 2013, and let me tell ya, that was the most trying and emotional time I have ever been through. I will NEVER take my career for granted again. It's absolutely true, you don't realize how good something is until it's gone.
  • Hunter, my boyfriend. God bless that man's heart. I always tell him that if he can handle me, he can handle anything. He knows me like the back of his hand and loves every single part of my flaws and uniqueness... And I'm forever blessed to have met him and be a part of his life. He is the jelly to my peanut butter.
  • Finally, and most certainly last but not at all in the very least, I'm thankful for the undying love of my God. Without Him, I am nothing.

All in all, I'm pretty blessed. When I fall into a funk (which seems to be the norm lately - I'm just ready for the next step in my life!), I always remember to pray and put things into perspective.

I came across a homeless man the other day and he asked for money. I actually didn't have anything on me, but was walking into a restaurant and I asked him if I could buy him some food. He desperately accepted. It broke my heart and pretty much slapped my complaints right off the table. Dennis, as he introduced himself, lovingly accepted the food and unknowingly put me back in my place.

"Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it." Hebrews 13:2

Baby It's Cold Outside

Well, actually, it's been a toasty few days in lovely Tallahassee, FL.  However, that doesn't slow down my Christmas mood! I just love the sights, sounds, and smells of Christmas. It brings about a wonderful feeling in my little heart. This year, I have made an effort to make a few homemade gifts (these will not be mentioned at this time since a few of my readers may be getting these as a Christmas present - however, I will share it soon enough).

If you're on a tight budget this year, or simply want to make some heartfelt goodies, below are some ideas that I found and wanted to share:

1) We Wish You a Merry Kissmas!

2) DIY Recipe Book

3) Adult Hot Chocolate

4) Pampering in a Jar

5) And just a few others...

{all craft ideas were found through Pinterest}

As I mentioned above, I will most surely share my DIY Christmas gifts that I made this year once the day of giving has passed. I can't give away my secrets just yet!

What are some Christmas craft ideas you have found?

Twine bottle DIY

Hi Friends!

As I've mentioned before, I am a proud guest writer for my friend Ashley's blog - The Grits Blog. A couple weeks ago, I posted a twine bottle DIY project. Of course, I love my readers and fellow bloggers, and wanted to share on my site. Follow this link to see how it's done.

Have a beautiful day!

A peek inside my life

Anytime I come across a blog, I immediately refer to the "About" tab of that blogger to see if we have similar interests or if they could be someone that I can relate to {{we could become BBFF's- Blogger Best Friends Forever}}. As I'm sure that I'm the only one that does that (note sarcasm), here are some tidbits, if you will, about me.

1. Where are you from?

I am proud to say that I was born and raised in Tallahassee, FL and currently reside here now. Not many people can say that they have lived in one place their entire lives (and enjoyed it), and I'm proud to be part of the small statistic that says they have. Granted, I have noticed lately that Tallahassee seems to be getting "a little too big for me" so I may be moving to the outskirts of Tallahassee. I'm a small town girl at heart!

2. What do you do for fun?

Oh goodness, what do I do?! Ha! I love spending time with my family and friends (I truly have some of the best friends a girl could ever ask for - then again, I'm biased). I also enjoy spending time with my boyfriend. We have been together for quite some time now and he truly is the peanut butter to my jelly. I also love to craft (you will be seeing A LOT of DIY home projects on my blog), cook, hunt, shop, and just living each day like the blessing it is. I also help with our middle school and high school youth groups in my church. I LOVE my kids! Teenagers are at such an awkward stage and it's so fun to help mentor them into leading positive, godly lives.

3. How many animals do you have?

I currently have a rescued Pit Bull named Manny. I LOVE THIS DOG! He truly puts a smile on my face every single day. I also own a horse named Daisy - yes, her name came from the old movie "Driving Miss Daisy"- and a cat named Tabby. We are quite the little family of misfits but miraculously I somehow manage to keep us all alive and well!

4. Why blog?

I have always had a passion for writing and sharing new ideas or things that I have found. What better way to share with other readers than through a blog. I love trying new things, whether it's a DIY craft, a new beauty product, or cooking a new recipe... I love a challenge! I feel like we are all bestowed gifts by our awesome Maker... why not use them to His great advantage.

Side note:

I am also a guest writer for my friend Ashley's blog, The Grits Blog. Go show my girl some love and check it out!

Enough about me... Let's connect! If you do have any more questions though, please don't hesitate to leave them in the comments box and I will answer them accordingly. Welcome to Southern Komfort Blog and stay beautiful friends!
