If We Are The Body

Image MapDriving home from youth last night, the song "If We Are the Body" by Casting Crowns came on my Pandora radio station. Of course, I had to belt out the tunes -- ya'll, I'm a star! Totally joking...

Anyways, the lyrics really struck a chord with me. If you're not familiar with the song, let me share the chorus with you:

But if we are the body
Why aren't His arms reaching?
Why aren't His hands healing?
Why aren't His words teaching?
And if we are the body
Why aren't His feet going?
Why is His love not showing them there is a way?
There is a way

This song was a great reminder to me as to what am I doing with my faith? Why am I not reaching out to more people? Why am I not actively going out into my community that so desperately needs to see the face and feel the comfort of Jesus?

Can I throw a curveball at ya'll (and at myself)?

If we are comfortable where we are in our faith, we're doing it all wrong. God calls us to go out into the world and make disciples.

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit
-Matthew 28:19

God also tells us to

Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."
-Matthew 19:21

The lyrics of this song instantly reminded me of the tasks God has called me, and all of us as Christians, to do in this lifetime. Think about it... If we honestly and truly trust God to provide and sustain, shouldn't we trust Him to provide and sustain us during our toughest hours while we are sharing the Gospel with others? I once read that for us to doubt God's abilities, to downplay his powers, and to question his reasons is downright sinful and rebellious of our Creator.

Dadgum, I don't want to be going against the Big Dog!

So my challenge to you is this:

Get off your "comfortable faithful butt" and do something with that faith. My faith and knowing my God personally brings me more joy and happiness than any other person can ever provide for me. Why wouldn't I want others to know about this awesome love?!

If I am part of the body, I want my arms to reach as far as they can; my hands to help heal others' pain and brokenness; my words to represent Christ and love; my feet to run across all nations wide to show others that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the light.
