Currently's

"Always believe that something wonderful is about to happen."

Eating: PB&J's + Cliff chocolate chip bars. Gotta love a good peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

Thinking: About the chicken noodle soup I'll be making tonight for a sick boy of mine. I'm really hoping it's just allergies that are getting to him.

Wishing: June were here because hellur beach vacation for us. I honestly cannot remember the last long vacation we took. Honeymoon maybe?? No, youth camps to the beach don't count as vacations. Ha!

Thanking: The Big Guy because honestly, I have no idea how we make it day to day without Him. Even when the finances can be tight, allergies are flaring up, and/or change is in the air for us, He's still got this whole gig in His hands.

Shopping: Deodorant and soap because stinky people ain't cute.

Planning: Our beach trip and pinching pennies to save up for it. Hey, we're splitting a house with my folks, it's going to be so much fun!

Praying: Continuously for friends, family, and people who don't know Him personally; where God is leading us at this juncture in life and peace over every decision we make; and for God to continue to move in His way at the places we've left behind because He {so clearly} closed those doors for us.

Happy Wednesday people! Be sure to smile at somebody today. And stock up on Flonase + Mucinex because #hellospringweather.

Sick Days

Have ya'll ever been struck down with cold-like symptoms so fast that you honestly thought you were dying? Yea? No? Me neither...

Maybe dying is an exaggeration but it sure does feel like my throat is being scraped with rusty nails. Lovely depiction there, I know. So as I sit here poppin' pills and paying bills (because #payday #praiseJesus), I realized that we have a busy few months ahead of us. Exciting things, folks!

one:// This weekend, our youth will be assisting in church cleanup for our upcoming Homecoming event at the church. We're celebrating 150 years of life. Look at little ole Antioch being a party animal!

two:// Shameless plug here - We've got quite a few fundraisers coming up to help raise money for our students to go to FUGE camp again next summer. Remember all the fun we had this past summer? If you are wanting to help us, we would love prayers! Prayers that our students' hearts will be molded and softened until it's time for us to leave again in July. Prayers that God will provide for each and every student that wants to go, to have the opportunity to. If you would like to donate to our camp fund, check out our account at Go Fund Me. Thank in advance for all the support and love!

three:// I realized last night that Hunter and I sort of, need to, gotta make plans for Thanksgiving. It'll be here before we know it!

four:// I'm trying to figure out how to construct (not buy) a wheel that will spin and land on different things. At our Fall Festival coming up at the end of October, the youth will have a booth to raise money for camp (I know, imagine that). I want to do a carnival type theme and basically you can spin the wheel to land prizes. One of them being the opportunity to smack their youth pastor (Hunter, not me) in the face with some good ole pie.

five:// Anybody have any training recommendations for a stubborn blue tick hound that refuses to use the bathroom all day when he's outside and then come in to promptly hike his leg on my rug? Yes, we could take him to the front yard once we get home but that requires us monitoring him and making sure he doesn't terrorize the neighborhood kids because #thatsfun. He's doing this on purpose too, he's mad about something because he's only started this in the last couple of days. Not freakin' happenin' captain. I've already told Hunter, unless we move somewhere with land, no more big dogs! That hate rampage only lasts for about 10 seconds then I'm right back to loving on Jep. 5-second rebound woman right here.

You can't help but love that face

And then there's our perfect child. Except for when it comes to door frames. And blinds.

Have a beautiful Wednesday my friends! I'm about to go pop more pills, lay in bed all day, and watch Pretty Little Liars. I know, I'm ashamed I've allowed myself to become addicted to this mess.

Currently + Kelly style

Happy Wednesday to all you lovely folks! Wipe those eye boogers from your eyes and put that smile on, it's a new day. I'm playing a bit of catch-up here today so let's make this a relaxed get-together, shall we?

reading:// Spiritual Leadership - it's a book about leadership and the skills one must be endowed with to be able to lead effectively and with purpose. It's really good so far!

eating:// Don't judge me, there were leftover donuts and cinnamon bread. I'm having one of each....

thinking:// I cannot wait to see my babies {fur babies} tonight! Oh how I've missed them. I'm also picking my mom up tonight and taking her to dinner as a thank-you for watching our babies all week long. Poor thing, she's had a crazy week.

how can you not love this face?!

thanking:// God that we had a wonderful 4 days with the boys we've been watching. I was actually sad this morning to see them off to school, knowing it was my last morning to wake them up. We're definitely up for doing it all again!

planning:// our Disney trip! We're about 1.5 months away from celebrating 1 year of marriage at the happiest place on earth. I just squealed typing that.

loving:// my husband. He's really the best.

Uh le duh, who else would be on my phone screen?

Currently I'm...

I've seen a few of these gems floating around and thought, "Hey, why not?" And also because I've lost track of days, just realized it's Wednesday, and there's notta thang to be posted. Alas, currently I'm...

Drinking: Sweet tea because my 75 pound pit bull woke me up bright and early this morning, shivering like a leaf because of bad weather. He's so brave, I know...

Wearing: Boring work clothes. But they are cute!

Wanting: Our trip to Disney to be oh-so-fantastical! Hunter and I are so excited to be celebrating both of our sisters birthdays with them.

Feeling: A bit sleepy, a bit mellow, a bit happy.

Eating: As of right now, nothing. But give me about 30 minutes and I'll be chowing down on a banana.

Listening To: Keyboard clicking. And construction taking place right outside my window.

Loving: Life! It's full of surprises, blessings, trials, you name it. It's a beautiful thing to live.

Excited About: Disney, le duh!

Admiring: The beautiful sunrise this morning. There was a particular moment I was sitting at a stop light and the rising sun behind dark clouds served as a beautiful back drop to our state's Capitol.

Saying Good-Bye To: Bad habits. Adios muchachos!

Let's wrap this up

You know what happens when you move? The before, during, and after? You lose brain cells. And when you lose brain cells you forget to complete certain things... Like the list of 27 things I learned in the {almost - technically now} 27 years of life. Yep, I need my head examined.
Let's wrap this baby up shall we?

21:// Hire movers. Since this move is still so fresh and so chaotic I felt that this was a very important note to add to this list. Hire. Dang. Movers. Don't do it yourself - it's awful. Hire movers. {Side note: I'm very grateful for the family and friends that did help us, have asked to help and I forgot to text you yes, and for offering your services. It is mucho appreciated!}

22:// Chick-fil-A has crack in their food. Totally joking! Don't sue me Chick-fil-A. But in all seriousness, I've discovered I have an unhealthy addiction to Chick-fil-A. In fact, the lady who works the drive-thru window during the lunch hour rush knows me personally. And when I don't go to Chick-fil-A for awhile, they notice and ask where I've been. I'll call it ministry, people. I like to make an effort to get to know folks.... And eat chicken.

23:// Life is not a competition. It's very easy to get caught up in the comparison game. Your friends are married with kids, and you're not. Your friends are graduating, and you're not. Your friends seem to have it altogether, and well you, you're just lucky to get clothes on each day. Don't compare yourself to others. Live your life according to God's purposes for YOU and not His purposes for OTHERS. Got it? Get it? Good.

24:// We're not promised tomorrow. I recently received a call that a sweet friend who translated for us in Honduras passed away. She was young and so full of life. Life is so beyond fragile and should be treasured each day. One of the first things I always pray to God is thanking Him for another day of life to do His work. It's a privilege, not a right. The Lord giveth, the Lord taketh away as my mother always said.

25:// Be picky about who you date/marry. I literally had a list of qualifications that a man must meet in order for me to even give him a second glance. It had things on it like "love God first; wear real clothes (previous fella only wore gym shorts/sweatpants to everywhere, and I mean everywhere); embrace my independence yet allow me to lean on you, and vice versa; etc." I'm one of those Type A folks where I don't like to waste my time. Thus, be picky about who you date and/or marry. Did I have that list for Hunter when we started dating? I absolutely did! Did he pass? I'll let ya'll take a wild guess on that one ;)

26:// Dogs are the best relationship-testers. Seriously, our dogs (I feel) have prepared us a little bit for kids. The managing, cleaning up, feeding, playing with... Our dogs are demanding, needy dogs. But I love them because they're my babies!

27:// Smile. Finally, always smile and especially to others. Not that weird-creeper-smile but a deep and genuine smile. Guys let's be real for a minute... There is so much hatred, darkness, discord, and anger in this world. The evilness of sin has penetrated every single person and many have forgotten what it's like to be positive. Smile because you live. Smile because Christ died for you, rose again to save your sorry butt, and it's BY GRACE ALONE that we are saved. Smile and talk to the folks that ride the elevator with you. Smile and befriend the people who don't "look like you" because guess what, they're God's children too. Just smile.

Bonus:// Ministry is not for the faint of hearts. Ministry is a tough, tough business. Hunter and I have been fortunate enough to see the good, the bad, and the very ugly early on in our ministry. I fully believe that we were meant to see it all pretty quickly to remind us daily why we have been called to do ministry, especially Hunter. Always love God first, then secondly love people. Love even the most difficult of people.

It's been a heck of 27 years, let me tell ya. But it's been fun, it's been real. Heck, it's been real fun. I've learned a lot about who I am as a person, and joyfully embrace all the trials, tribulations, and successes that God has placed in my life. Everything has it's purpose and I cannot wait to see what the next 27 years of life have to offer.

Happy Birthday Joe!

Today is my oldest of my 2 brother's birthday! Lord have mercy, he's turning a whopping 24 years old. Please stop growing little siblings of mine?! In honor of this kid's birthday, I wanted to share some memories of our years growing up:

one// Remember that one time we were little and making mud pies (where the pond is now) and I almost had you convinced that mud pies are actually really food. You were quite the smart little guy, weren't you?

two// All our Disney trips that we took as a family, picking on each other standing in line, and taking turns on who would actually get to press the buttons in the elevator. Joe's most favorite Disney ride growing up was the "big ball" at Epcot. To this day, I still think it's his favorite.

three// On rainy days in the summer, me and my two brothers (our youngest sister wasn't around yet) would make forts in the linen closet of our house. Now bear in mind, this linen closet is tiny as you would imagine. When I go to the linen closet now, I'm reminded of all those adventures we would create in that closet... and wonder how the hell we fit in there?!

four// Our yard always grew wild berries that were apparently poisonous. I almost had you convinced that those berries were yum yum yum... But dad caught me telling those lies. Dadgummit!

five// On mine and Hunter's wedding night at the reception, you came up to me and gave me the biggest hug and told me how much you love me. I'm pretty certain you had had a few drinks, but you'll never know how much that meant to me.

Happy birthday Joe! I hope your day is full of DMB music (Dave Matthews Band, le duh people), skim boarding at the beach, and love from all those around you. Love you to pieces, baby Joe!

Coffee + Fishing

Happy Monday friends! And happy almost-mid-May... Yep. You read that right. Let's get to the things I'm grateful for today on this almost-mid-May:

one// coffee... Or some kind of caffeine to kick start my mornings. If you want me to function properly, I'll need it.

two// Wedding showers and seeing friends that I don't get to see too often.

three// Sprinklers and pools for our hot summer days. Our coonhound particularly loves the sprinkler and insists on screaming the entire time he runs through it. Yes, our dog screams.

four// Time spent with both my family and my in-laws. I love that they like spending time together!

five// Fishing trips for the hubs. He was able to go fishing this past Saturday and I think it's safe to say it did his soul some good.

What all are ya'll grateful for?

Oh hey

Guys, not going to even lie here, I woke up today not realizing it was Friday. As I was getting ready for work, it suddenly dawned on me: "It's Friday? IT'S FRIDAY!!" *cue awkward white girl dancing* So because I am last-minute-Kelly, ya'll are going to get a list of randoms. Because duh, #transparency.

one// Tonight we're having pizza with some of our most favorite people and their newest baby, and Uncle Josh of course!

two// I'm pretty excited to have a relaxing weekend coming up. I feel like we have been movin' and shakin' non-stop for the last several weeks so it'll be nice to slow down.

three// There's this blogger, Jamie, that I just adore because 1) She loves God, and 2) She is fully transparent in regards to her personality. Girlfriend tends to let a cuss word slip or two, she's hysterical, and I love it. Earlier this week, she talked about praying and ya'll, it hit me square in the heart.

four// In a about a week, a local church is proudly hosting an event that our pastor, Hunter and I, along with others have been working on getting together. It's a night of worship for ALL teenagers and young adults in our area and ya'll, I'm excited for this! Our area has never had anything like this so this is huge. Please be in prayer for us as we continue to put final things in place; please pray for the hearts of those that will attend and that they will be receptive to the Holy Spirit; please pray that this is just the beginning for big changes in our little community.

I hope ya'll have a fabulous weekend!

Randoms in life

// I'm sort of freaking out over the fact that March is over next week. Since when is it okay for time to fly by so dang fast??

// Spending time with our friends last night who just had their baby boy was just what I needed to slow down a bit. Even though it was short, it was oh so sweet.

// Easter is just around the corner. Did you know that?

// I'm pretty sure all the pollen is gone thanks to all the rain we've had over the last couple of days. But then again, this is Florida. Who am I kidding?

// I am pretty dang ready for the end of July/beginning of August... Moving time! I'm ready to decorate, design our backyard with our new fence that is being put in, change knobs on drawers, put up a backsplash in the kitchen... I've got plans.

// Songs that take me back to a fun, happy place in time are just my cup of tea. It's always so neat seeing how God works His mercies new every day.

// Life is good. Life is really really good. God has blessed me with an amazing husband and best friend, family and friends that love me, teenagers to do life with, a career that provides, and new life every day.

// Tell me some randoms in your life!

You + Me -- We go together like peas and carrots

It's clearly no secret - I'm crazy for my husband. He is my best friend, my biggest supporter and cheerleader, and can brighten my day just with one look. Of course, we have our similarities in nature and personalities. But we also have differences about us that help make our relationship so unique for us.

When I saw this fun post on Amanda's blog a couple of weeks ago, I just had to copy her wonderful idea. Thanks Amanda for the inspiration! So friends, I give to you... The top 5 differences between Hunter and I -- and why I just absolutely love it!

ONE// I am more Type A when it comes to plans and schedules, where Hunter is more Type B and can go with the flow. I want to know what is happening when, where, for how long, and with as much time in advance. I love that Hunter can just go with the flow - it constantly reminds me to slow down, enjoy each moment as they come, and to live a little on the Type B wild side.

TWO// I cannot look at odd-end objects and create something out of it off the top of my head. I need Pinterest, inspirations, visuals, something! Hunter can take weird pieces that you would never think about to make something useful with. For example, (all my hunters and hunters' widows will appreciate this) he made a deer feeder out of a piece of plywood, racket straps, and PVC piping. I mean... who does that?!

THREE// I am a very speak-my-mind kind of person. I'm notorious for word vomit and can unfortunately, lead to hurt feelings for some people. Hunter is much more reserved, can think things through, and is okay with not sharing all of the wonderful things on his mind (except with me of course). He has taught me so much in just our 4 years together, and I have learned a heck of a lot with how to say things, when to say things, and if to say things. I'm still a work in progress but I've become much more RESERVED in what I say to people.

FOUR// I'm an over-thinker. Sometimes I'll read wayyy too much into something when it's really nothing at all. Hunter just takes everything for face-value and moves on. Teach me your ways oh-wise-one!

FIVE// I will trust you from the get-go. No questions asked. So when a person breaks that trust, it's very, very hard for me to ever really be on the same level again with that person. Hunter learns to trust people over time. He waits to see how you will respond in certain situations. And, for the most part, he's pretty quick to forgive. This is a balance we are both working on together. I love that him and I have a trust bond that is so strong - we both feel entirely confident in our trust levels with each other. We're learning together how to trust people in due time, and how to learn to love those who have broken the trust either with us individually or as a couple.

So there ya have it, a few differences between him and I. Of course, we have so many more but these are the ones that really keep us on our toes and continuously teach us new things each day. I hope each of ya'll have a wonderful weekend!

You had me at "Hello"

This week, life starts. This week, Sessions starts in the Florida Legislature. This week, I immerse my life into work... And I like it! I'm keeping it simple today with all my gratefulness...

  • Coffee, and iced coffee at that. I really don't know if I could function without it.
  • Training methods being used on Jep and it works! Hunter and I dropped quite a bit of money on this training device and the dog is like night and day. Seriously, the best money we have ever spent on that dog!
  • Daraja children's choir and all the feel goods in my heart that I felt last night.
  • Lazy Saturday's where Hunter and I do absolutely nothing except be couch potatoes.
  • Seeing my husband's heart soften towards those he was once so angry towards. Everybody has their demons, and he wrestled with his and won. Love answered prayers!

Let's sing our ABC's

I've seen this little gem floating around the blog world and love the idea of it. What better way for people to get to know you a little better! So without further ado...

a | animal// My sweet boys

b | beauty product// It's A 10 hair products. They make my hair so easy to manage when I need to brush it or style it. Also, dry shampoo is my jam. Did ya'll see Cassie's post about different dry shampoos?

c | color// Hmm... what color am I coveting right now? Right now I'm loving anything minty green. Maybe I'm just trying to channel the Spring season.

d | drink// Ya'll should know the answer to this. I'll give you a minute to guess... Sweet tea!

e | exercise// HA! Ya'll are so funny! Okay okay, I'm trying (read: failing) to get back into running. I swear my life moves a million miles a minute so I'm having a bit of a struggle trying to find the time to do said running. Pray for me.

f | flower// Sunflowers

g | game// I like Catch Phrase or Bananograms.

h | human// Jesus. Then Hunter. But mostly Jesus.

i | instrument// I wish! Learning how to play the piano is on my bucket list to do before I die.

Here's a major flashback of Hunter playing the guitar

j | job// What can I say, I love my job!

k | karaoke song// Ha! I don't do karaoke. I wouldn't want people's ears to bleed.

l | lunch// Is it lunch time yet?! I love me some good ole Chick-Fil-A - yummy!

m | movie// I have lots of favorites! I love a good action movie or comedy or RomCom. Every now and then I can watch war movies (they're just so sad to me) but I absolutely cannot do scary movies. I will have nightmares for days people!

n | number// I'm going to go with number 77 because I'm special like that.

o | object// Would this be my favorite object? Can I pick 2? I would say my bible and my wedding rings. Both mean so much to me and are items that I treasure daily.

p | picture// I would say this describes me perfectly...

q | quote// "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made." Psalms 139:14

r | restaurant// I'm a lover of anything Italian so I would have to say our local Italian restaurant, Village Pizza.

s | season// I used to be all about that summer. Then I became all about that fall/winter. Now I'm all about that spring. So I think it's safe to say, I like them all for their different reasons!

t | trend// I'm not a huge trend follower - I'm all about being comfortable in my own style. I will have to say, I love a good pair of jeans and cowboy boots with a ball cap. That's my go-to comfortable outfit.

u | underwear// That's for my husband to know and for ya'll to never find out...

v | vacation// Right now we're saving up for a couple of things - this summer we'll be traveling with our youth students to a camp retreat. Then later in the year, we're going to Disney World with another couple. I'm honestly so excited I could just pee my underwear that ya'll will never know about (see letter "u" if you're confused)!

w | writer// Mmmm now that is tough. I have a lot of favorite writers in all different genres.

x | x-tra favorite// Anything dipped in chocolate - bananas, strawberries, marshmallows, my fingers....

y | year// This year! I'm trying to live in the present and enjoy each moment as they come.

z | zodiac sign// I'll give you a couple of hints: My sign lives in the ocean, is the fourth astrological sign, and unfortunately, a disease.

I hope ya'll have a fun, warm weekend!

Friday Fluff

Guys, I know I say this a lot, but time flies. Next week is the last week of February, which means March comes next, which means Sessions starts in the Florida Legislature = no life for Mrs. Thang.

But that's okay! Because it's a beautiful, cold Friday. I've got tons of stuff on my brain so what's the best thing to do with all that mess? List it, people. List it.
  • I have the best husband ever. Seriously! He will go out in the mornings and start my car up for me before work so that when it's time for me to leave, my car is all nice and toasty!
  • Speaking of best husband ever, Hunter and I made the decision earlier this week to answer a calling and we are going to be youth leaders at a very small, country church. We're very excited (and slightly nervous) to be taking this on. It's funny how God works in mysterious ways.
  • My oldest brother is in town and even though I've been going non-stop all week, I'm excited to spend time with him this weekend.
  • I was informed by a reliable source (read: Hunter) the other day that I eat a lot of chocolate. My response: Is there a problem with that??
  • Even though it's a cold Friday, I hear we're supposed to be getting up into the 60's and 70's in temps this weekend. Which means I will be sitting my pasty white self outside and soaking up some vitamin D. Yes, I will wear sunscreen because I'm not all about that skin cancer.

I hope ya'll have a wondrous Friday. Please be praying for my heart the next couple of days as I prepare to lead a group of women Monday night in our first ever meet-up of our women's ministry group. And just because I love ya'll, I have to share this cute pic...

Oh my, hello Friyay

I really can't get enough of Friday's guys. Friday's become Friyay's, which just make me oh so happy. It's been a quiet week in my world but sometimes that's just what the doctor calls for. The doctor also calls for a list of randoms, and I'm always down for that...

one: Tomorrow we will be celebrating my twin's birthday! Just kidding, we're not twins but we have had numerous occasions when we're together and people approach us asking if we're twins. It's become quite funny and we always love going along with it. What's scary though is that we tend to think alike in a lot of ways so there's that.

She's my special friend...

two: I have a second rustic palette project in the works and I can't wait to share it with ya'll. Just call me Handywoman Kelly.

three: We have completed and sent in our tax returns - hallelujah! I'm sort-of-but-desperately chomping at the bit to get our taxes done early every year. I don't know, I just like getting that mess done and over with. I have these horrible visions that if I don't do it fast enough, men in black suits and blacked out sunglasses are going to show up at my doorstep, whisk me away to God-knows-where and probe me in places I'd rather not be probed in. Mmm, no thank you.

four: My baking thumb is back. Well, minus cookies but otherwise... it's back! I'm not sure if Hunter is as thrilled as I am.

five: I've been tutoring my SIL in math for the last couple of weeks. We try to meet twice per week and as we've been going over different problems, I'm realizing more and more what a nerd I am. I get a pep in my step when we talk math #nerdalert.

Finally, my wheels are spinning for some ministry ideas and a dear friend of mine shared this article with me because it's something that is very near and dear to our hearts. Take a wild guess at where my wheels are spinning to...

Happy Friday folks!
