Making some waves

Image MapIn the last few months, whether you know Hunter and I personally in our daily lives or through this here bloggy corner, you would know that we have been experiencing changes throughout our church.

It has been a trying time that has drawn a few people much much closer to us, and sadly, has pushed some folks away. Not that it was an intentional separation, but rather separation by differences in ideas of the vision of our church.

I have expressed to many of ya'll that Hunter and I will be moving to Quincy, Florida once we are married. We still have every intention to move, and all signs are still a big flashing GO. But now we have even more of a reason to go.

Since many things have taken place over the last several months within our church walls, Hunter and I have prayed and prayed and begged for the life of our church. We have prayed for stability within the hearts of those inside those building walls; we have prayed for the leaders of our church, who are some of our closest friends; and we have prayed for God to change the hearts of many in our church to become less selfish and more selfless.

In essence, we wanted to be part of the leaders of a revolution in Quincy, Florida. A revolution that would bring hope, change, and most importantly, love to an unloved area. We wanted folks to look at our community and say, "Wow! In spite of everything these folks have been through, there is still hope there!" As things have progressed in the church, Hunter and I found that if we wanted this revolution to happen in the community, we would have to do this on our own outside the church walls.

As I've mentioned before, Quincy has some serious demons to wrestle with. Quincy comes from a long line of segregation and racial issues. It comes from a long line of the have's and the have not's. Quincy comes from a long line of folks who just want to be loved. And all we're trying to do is bring that love back. We don't want to change the way folks worship, or the type of praise music you listen to, or whatever it is.

We simply want to ensure that they are loved, and that we can spend forever in eternity together with our Father.

With all of that being said, Hunter and I are beyond excited to announce that we are partnering with some very close friends of ours to reach out to the community in Quincy, Florida. We plan on creating an environment and place that will be a haven and sanctuary for the unloved, the prostitutes, the pious, the religious, the hopeful and hopeless, the lepers, the haunted, and most importantly, the ones needing to be saved by grace.

Hunter and I cannot begin to express the joy in our hearts that we're experiencing right now. We have been praying for this for a. long. time. God has fully answered our prayers. We cannot believe how awesome God's timing is. It's impeccable!!

We are asking for your prayers in this time. Not just for us, but for our very best of friends who are leading this brigade, and have invited us to join them. We are asking for thoughts and prayers as we begin this process because the good Lord knows, we will have push-back from folks; we are going to have roadblocks along the way; and we are going to have those that shared pews with us question and judge our reasonings and motives.

Ya'll, Hunter and I have been bursting at the seams for the last several months with ideas on how to share the gospel with those that have been turned on by society. And what you need to understand is this can also be a place for people like my brothers. They can come to this place knowing that there will be no judgement for what they're wearing, what they did last Saturday night, or anything like that! It'll be a place for them to figure out where their souls are going.

Our thoughts and words are finally turning into action!! God, thank you for your guiding hand in this. Thank you for the patience on our part in seeing this through. Most importantly, thank you for calling us to this task. We won't let you down.

Thank you to our friends and family members who are behind us completely in this process. We can only hope that you can one day call this community church your church home.

  3. God always gives you what you need, it may not always be the obvious choice but it's the right one. I am so happy to hear that things are getting better. And I will keep you, your church and the missions you're all involved in in my prayers. May God grant you the wisdom to be able to help people get closer to him, his love and grace.

  4. Kelly, I got chills reading this. If we lived closer, I would be on my way to your house to give you the biggest HUG!! (You're in luck though that we don't live close, esp since it's 6am). For one, I love your heart - for God and for others. You are so inspiring and constantly remind me that it's important to look outside the comforting walls we often call "home" or "church." Second of all, do you know how AMAZING it is that you have found a partner to not only support you in all of this, but to run out there with you and say- "YEAH! ME TOO!" !??! You and Hunter are so, so blessed, girl and I cannot wait to see what God does through you two. Keep sharing your story! XO!
